Bought this netbook back in June 2010 and found it very convenient for travel, allowing me to check my e-mail and surf the web while in hotels. Packs away nicely in a backpack for airline travel, with minimal extra baggage. After 10 months, however, the battery is shot, or so it appears. The PC works fine while plugged into the power adapter, but the battery just does not charge no matter how long it's left plugged in. I've done some checking on the web and am not sure whether it's the battery or the internal charging circuitry. Either way, it's no longer truly portable. I haven't called ASUS customer service yet and am not sure I'm going to. Read another comment that said the battery warranty is only 6 months, so it may not be worth the trouble. At the time I purchased this, it was only $370, so I guess I've gotten good usage out of it. Still, the battery should last longer than 10 months. I can't say I'd purchase another one of these. In fact, with the new iPad2 out, I suspect I'll go the Apple route to replace it. True, it's double the price, but I think I'm getting more for the money. By the way, Amazon is great. Delivery was fast - no problems there.

I got this netbook for Christmas last year. I use it for work, school and entertainment. I generally use it for spread sheets and documents, but I also do plenty of web surfing (including videos). The battery lasts all day for me. During a normal day of collecting behavioral data in elementary school classrooms, typing notes during lectures, researching information on the interwebz and general entertainment, including watching the occasional movie, I regularly get 10-12 hours of battery life. It is also small enough to carry around in my hand all day.

I like Win 7 Starter a lot better than the Vista garbage that was on my last laptop, but the limitations on personalization prompted me to upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate. I was also able to install LinuxMint and dual-boot into either OS. After getting more familiar with Mint I ended up removing Windows completely. I am still new to Linux so it is a bit of a learning curve, but Mint makes everything work, including WiFi, on this netbook. It is simple, clean and fast.

As others mentioned, I would recommend the RAM upgrade. With only 1GB it is functional, but another Gig makes it a pretty snappy little device. I would also consider switching to LinuxMint an upgrade, even for the average Windows user.

FYI-if you're not savvy with software on computers, be aware that this computer comes with Windows Starter--which means you only get use of the software 25 times. I did not know this. I thought this computer was a great price for what I was looking for: a smaller commuter computer with Windows on it. Apparently the only way to get Word and other simple Office procedures on my notebook is to BUY Microsoft Office on top of the price of this computer. LAME!!
